Elevate your writing to new heights…

Get high-level, nuanced guidance toward clarity, confidence, and stronger connection with your readers

The pathway from first draft to a polished, published book can be daunting. But having a confident, intuitive trail guide makes all the difference. I work with authors who are eager to dive into the revision process and produce books that captivate, entertain, and offer gateways for transformation.

Your book deserves an editor who loves it as much as you do.

Feeling stuck and unsure of what your manuscript needs next?

Making revisions can feel overwhelming when you’re too close to your own work — especially when something feels off but you can’t pinpoint why.

If you’re struggling with honing your author’s voice, solidifying the structure of your book, or highlighting and polishing the threads of your story or core message — I’m here to help.

Eliminate uncertainty and move forward with confidence…

Get thoughtful, high-level feedback designed to strengthen and clarify — while protecting your unique voice.

Good editing nurtures the power of authors to express themselves, their thoughts, their stories, their cultures, and their philosophies in a way that impacts and transforms their readers.

I weigh each of these elements when suggesting edits and tailor my feedback to adapt to your background, learning style, and where you are in your writing journey.

Great books are crafted with thorough, thoughtful editing

It’s not just about typos and punctuation — it’s about choosing words that speak directly to your audience, removing distractions, and ensuring your message is remembered long after they’ve turned the page.

A simple sentence, if the words are carefully selected and arranged in the right order, can evoke powerful feelings of joy, sadness, or rumination.

But it’s rare for our sentences to tumble out the right way the first time. Most first drafts are a little awkward, and a reader’s experience is more akin to bushwhacking through the undergrowth than a smooth hike up to the mountain’s peak.

Luckily, there’s a simple solution — one every writer can use:

Revisions.

(Don’t chuck me off the side of the trail!) The best way to ensure your writing engages, inspires, and keeps your readers asking for more is to edit until your ideas are transformed into the best versions of themselves.

What writers gain after working together

Clear direction, stronger storytelling, and confidence in their manuscripts.

  • Dakota has been an absolute godsend through the entire writing and editing process. Her thorough and detailed commentary in questioning characters' intentions, challenging me to evolve plots and friction points, helped me hone my craft as a writer and elevate my storytelling to create a book series that I am proud of. As a new author to the world of fiction, I couldn't have done it without Dakota's help. If you are wondering whether she is the right editor for you, I guarantee she will be worth your investment.

~A. B. Jackson, Author of Stolen Moments

  • Working with Dakota on my novel was a fantastic experience, from our first "get to know the project" conversation to her clear, detailed feedback on my manuscript. Not only did she give me editorial comments on the manuscript itself, ranging from structural suggestions to verb-tense problems; she also prepared a spreadsheet that helped me track the novel's timeline, and an editorial letter with an overview of her suggestions and a map of her reading process. Later, when I had a question about one of her comments (trying to decide which strategy to use for resolving an issue), she got back to me immediately with a video call so that she could show me what she was thinking. All of it was a great help—my book is vastly improved because of her insights.

  • I will be hiring Dakota again on my next project! She communicated well throughout the entire process and delivered on time. Her suggestions were clear and professional and she was available to answer my many questions. Her input saved me from the need for future edits—such a valuable investment!

~ Beth Lewis, Author of The Boy Who Burped

  • WOW! I wrote my first book, and had no idea how to go about editing it, and knew I needed help! Dakota took the time to go into so much detail and truly helped me not only find my voice and make this book authentically me, but also is an absolute expert in the rules and formatting to make my book professional and sellable! I am so grateful for her care, knowledge and support—she over delivers and then some! Highly recommend her to anyone who is on their first, or thirty-first, book!

~ Nina Shyne Alviar, Power FULL Emotional Eating Coach

  • A dream to work with! I came to Dakota in a pinch for an article that was due to publish the next day. Not only did she rush to save the day, her extreme attention to detail found things that I never would have – even if I had read the piece 100 times. She has an incredible eye for what she does. I couldn’t be happier!

~ Tonya Rineer, Money Mindset Mentor

  • Working with Dakota has been an incredibly smooth process from beginning to end! Dakota brought both creative ideas and sharp editing skills to the table. She made it possible for me to have my first article published online at Addicted2Success.com—with my first submission. Without her I know I would not have been able to have achieved this goal so quickly. I would definitely recommend Dakota to anyone and everyone looking for engaging content and professional editing.

Am I the right editor for you?

Choosing an editor is a bit like selecting a trailbuddy, and there are plenty of traits to consider: Are you looking for a pacesetter or a sauntering partner? Someone who kicks every rock (and informs you about it), or a collaborator who offers “Isn’t that beautiful!” along with a side of commiseration for the uneven path?

If you are wondering, I’m a destination-driven hiker (waterfalls are my favorite) with a keen appreciation for the interesting rocks, flowers, moss, and animated lifeforms that can be found along the way.

In non-metaphorical speak: I keep my eye on your objectives and edit accordingly — offering straightforward advice and suggestions that will move you forward — while also highlighting strengths you should lean into.

My personal goal is for you to walk away not just with a finished manuscript you’re proud of, but with additional skills and knowledge you can apply to your next project.

We are likely a great fit if you:

  • Have a manuscript that is ready to go, and you’ve reread and tweaked it at least once (or will have by the time you send it to me)

  • Recognize the usefulness of the spellcheck function (and use it!)

  • Hold a deep and abiding love for how words create magic when used correctly

  • Are open to receiving constructive (but kind) feedback about how to strengthen your writing for a better connection with your readers

  • Prefer to invest in human skill and creativity rather than outsourcing to computer algorithms

  • Are committed to forging deliberate and authentic connections with others to change the world (for the better)

  • Can’t wait to share your story or heart-driven message with your defined target audience

  • Identify with the meme about deleting extra exclamation points to appear “normal”

We might not be a great fit if you:

  • Only want a “quick proof” before publishing a freshly written draft

  • Believe that editing is just a formality to get through before publishing

  • Haven’t allocated enough time to work with editors and other publishing professionals before your target publication date

  • Prioritize cheap and fast over quality and diligence

You deserve thoughtful care and clear direction on your writing journey
